Seeking Information on Ceramic Acid Vessels

From time to time, the Hercules Historical Society has been contacted by persons in possession of items characterized as acid vats or acid vessels, further claiming that the items had been used at the Hercules Powder Works. Provenance was typically a relative or prior property owner acquired the items when surplused by the Works.

Photo below is of a typical acid vessel, probably a reaction vessel. Location is private property. Material is heavy ceramic.

Here's a historical photo apparently showing acid vessels outside a building at the Works.

Here's an item in our collection referring to these large, heavy ceramic acid storage and reaction vessels.
