Hercules, the newest book in Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America Series, will be featured at an event for the Rotary Club of Hercules. Local author and Hercules Historical Society member Stephen Lawton will be conducting a presentation and be available to sign copies. This is a breakfast meeting and includes some time for fellowship and club business matters. This new book chronicles 100 years of Hercules, one of the longest surviving company towns in California, located here in the East Bay. Before there was Silicon Valley, there was the high explosives industry that put California on the global stage. Using 219 rare images of the plant, its people, and the company village, Hercules tells the story of industrial innovation that began in the 1870s that ended with the dawn of the environmental movement.
